Galápagos Weather & Currents - Best Times to Dive

The Galápagos Marine Reserve offers incredible diving all year long, especially at Darwin & Wolf Marine Sanctuary, the ocean comes alive with some of the most legendary underwater encounters. From June to November, the cooler water (18–24 °C) currents bring giant whale sharks, often traveling through these nutrient-rich seas. In the warmer season (December to May), the sea warms to 25–28 °C, the surge calms, and visibility improves, perfect for exploring colorful reefs and drifting with ray species and hammerhead sharks.

No matter when you go, you’re likely to encounter schools of scalloped hammerhead sharks (Sphyrna lewini). These shark-dominated waters also host Galápagos sharks, silky sharks, and sometimes even tiger sharks, making every dive a thrilling, top-predator experience. Beyond sharks, you might also spot eagle rays, playful dolphins, and curious sea lions. Truly an unforgettable marine spectacle.
